INTRODUCTION

The National Academy of Direct Taxes, Regional Campus, Chandigarh previously known as Direct Taxes Regional Training Institute (DTRTI)Chandigarh came into existence vide notification dated 11.12.2003 of the CBDT and functions under the parent institute, the National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur to caters to the training needs of the employees of the Income Tax Department posted in the North West Region (NWR).

 

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

 

The NADT, Regional Campus, Chandigarh has been entrusted with conducting an all India one-day online course on “Goods and Service Tax” for officers of the rank of Dy. Commissioners of Income Tax and Asstt. Commissioners of  Income Tax. The course has been planned to educate the participants on the emerging issues relating to Goods and Service Tax. The course will be conducted by eminent and highly qualified speakers.

 

BRIEF OF THE COURSE

This course has been planned to educate the participants on the emerging issues relating to Re-assessment of Income. The topics which will be covered are broadly categorized as below:

  • New provisions of section 148 as per the Finance Act, 2021 and Finance Act 2022.
  • Comparative analysis of new procedure of assessment with the earlier scheme of assessment.
  • Reassessment in case of Search Cases.
  • Timelines for completion of assessment for various Assessment Years.
  • Legal pronouncements on provisions of Reassessment.

  

BRIEF PROFILE OF THE SPEAKER

  1. UPENDER GUPTA

 Upender Gupta belongs to the 1990 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Indirect Taxes & Customs). In his career span of around 32 years he has served in various capacities in numerous Wings of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (‘CBIC’) and also at different stations throughout the country. He has worked as Principal Commissioner (GST), CBIC, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India and has handled GST related work for more than six years. He is presently working as Principal Additional Director General, Directorate General of Taxpayer Services at New Delhi.

 

Ms. ASHIMA BANSAL

Ashima Bansal is a 99 batch officer she has studied electronics and communication engineering and has also completed her LLB during the course of service .she has vast experience in Central excise and GST. She has worked as US in CBEC ,in Central excise, in   CESTAT, DG  systems and DG GST . Presently she is posted as JS in the GST Council Sectt.

  1. N. K. CHAND, IRS

Sh. N. K. Chand is an IRS officer of 1990 batch. He holds bachelor and postgraduate degree in Commerce from SRCC & Delhi School of Economics,University of Delhi. He also completed Grad CWA from the Institute of Costand Works Accountants of India. During the service, he obtained Degree inLaw in 2014. Before joining IRS, he worked as lecturer in Guru GobindCollege of Commerce, University of Delhi for over 3 years. He has worked inthe UP (West), Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai and NWR regions in variouscapacities. His varied experience in the Income Tax Department includesstints with Investigation Wing and Central Charges, with the ITAT as CIT(DR) and as Pr. CIT ReAC (Assessment Unit). He is currently posted as Pr.Commissioner of Income Tax (Central), Ludhiana.

 

  1. SAURAV NARAYAN MODI, IRS

 

Sh. Saurav Narayan Modi is an IRS officer of 2008 batch. posted as Addl.Director of Income Tax (Inv.)(Hq.), Chandigarh. He has worked in theMumbai and NWR region in various capacities. India and the world, witnessed three waves of Covid 19 in succession and despite emerging victorious by containing the spread of the virus, has suffered financial and social distress.The Pandemic took its toll on Income TaxDepartment also claiming many of the precious lives of its officers. Further, during this period the department underwent major structural and functional changes.

Both the Pandemic and Organizational change required the Income Tax employees and their families to adjust routines, change their habits, acquire technical skills, and cope up with professional changes.

In this backdrop, and celebrating  the AajadiKaAmritMahotsab, the NADT ,Regional Campus ,Chandigarh is organizing a series of sessions under the head of “SUFARNAMA”by inviting accomplished speakers of high public standing and who have despite various strugglesexcelled in their fields, to share their journey and unique insights with the department employees and their families.

 

BRIEF PROFILE OF THE SPEAKER

Shri YogeshwarDutt

Our speaker today as part of this series is Shri YogeshwarDutt  an Indian freestyle wrestler. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the 60 kg category. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013. He won gold medals at the 2010 and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.Shri YogeshwarDuttwas born in Bhainswal Kalan village in Sonipat district of Haryana. He first started wrestling at the age of eight and idolisedBalrajPehlwan. Shri Yogeshwar had lost his father in 2006 just nine days before he boarded the flight to Doha for the 15thAsian Games. He also sustained a knee injury, but despite the emotional and physical trauma he managed to win the bronze medal in the 60 kg category at the Asian Games.
